How is Chagpori doing on

  1. With great joy we would like to inform you that Kyabje Dodrup Chen Rinpoche graciously performed the ‘rabney’ ceremony (blessing) of the new statues of Medicine Buddha & Ugyen Menla and also the Chagpori pharmacy premises at Salugara on 22nd April. Rinpoche blessed the Chagpori land at Salugara with the name “Dechen Choling”. It was indeed a very fortunate occasion.

  2. We would like to announce that Chagpori will celebrate its Silver Jubilee on 20th Dec 2018. All friends and well wishers are cordially invited. Your kind confirmation before 31st August will be greatly appreciated.

  3. Dr. Edward Yap Eng Ann from Singapore is conducting a month’s course of Theoretical and Practical Training of Clinical Acupuncture at Chagpori College. It is jointly organized by Chagpori Tibetan Medical Institute and Dept. of Sowa Rigpa, Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies (CIHTS), Sarnath, U.P. There are more than 40 participants from Chagpori, CIHTS, Sorig Bumzhi Medical College & others attending the course.

  4. On 6th May 2018 we commemorated the 322nd Founding Day of Chagpori.

  5. International Conference on Tibetan Medicine was held from 25th February to 1st March 2018 at Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies (Deemed University), Sarnath, Varanasi. It was jointly organized by Central Council of Tibetan Medicine, Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies and Chagpori Tibetan Medical Institute. The entire conference was divided into various themes on Tibetan Medicine and also Ayurveda, Unani and Traditional Chinese Medicine. The conference comprised of 6 plenary sessions, 28 parallel sessions, 12 paper presentations and one day of practical workshop. The conference was attended by 201 participants and 30 speakers from 10 countries. Honorable Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Government of India, Shri Kiren Rijiju was the chief guest for the valedictory function of the conference. Dr. Vanitha Muralikumar, President, Central Council of Indian Medicine was also present as the guest of honor. We would like to extend our gratitude to all those who contributed in making the conference a success.

  6. We are happy that the construction of the 1st floor of the pharmacy is nearly completed. We sincerely appreciate the generous support of our sponsors and well wishers.

  7. Kalon Sonam Topgyal Khorlotsang (Minister) and Secretary, Dept. of Home, Central Tibetan Administration visited Chagpori office/clinic at Darjeeling and the pharmacy at Salugara in February.

  8. We were happy to get the blessing of Ven. Namkhai Nyingpo Rinpoche on 7th December near Chagpori College. He bestowed the Yuthog Nyingthig Initiation and the oral transmission of Medicine Buddha sadhana.

  9. On 9th and 10th October 2017 an inspection team of the Central Council of Indian Medicine, consisting of 3 members visited Chagpori. They visited the College at Takdah and the pharmacy at Salugara. The main purpose of their visit was regarding the recognition of degrees awarded by Chagpori to its graduates.

  10. Presently there are 22 students undergoing their studies in two classes. The 7th batch is in their fifth year and the 8th batch is in their third year of studies. Due to the three and a half months strike in Darjeeling we were compelled to shift our classes temporarily at Salugara. So the students could continue with their studies. They also had the opportunity for some practical classes in medicine preparation.

  11. In August 2017 the 6th batch of five Chagpori doctors graduated successfully, after completion of 5 years of medical studies and one year of internship. We gratefully acknowledge our sponsors who have sponsored them for the last six years. Till date 58 doctors have successfully graduated from Chagpori.

  12. Our clinic in Darjeeling town was open during the full duration of the strike. In this way we were able to provide our services to patients.
